September 9, 2026

The installation of IEC (Information, Education and Communication) boards has commenced at Chanthappura, the Beacon Town of Kadannappalli-Panappuzha Grama Panchayat.

Project Beacon Town is an initiative implemented by the District Administration with the objective of transforming towns across Kannur district into clean, hygienic, and aesthetically pleasing towns. As part of the project, one major town in each local self-government institution will be developed as a model town in the first phase. Accordingly, activities are currently underway to transform Chanthappura Town in Kadannappalli-Panappuzha Grama Panchayat into a model town.

An area covering a radius of approximately 500 metres to 1 kilometre around Chanthappura Town has been selected for the project. During the first phase, activities will include identifying and cleaning locations where waste is being dumped and where foul odours are present, making public toilets functional, strengthening waste collection and management systems, and removing unauthorised boards and banners.

IEC boards are being installed as part of the efforts to address the gaps identified through the baseline survey conducted at Chanthappura under the leadership of the SPC students of Kadannappalli Government Higher Secondary School to assess the existing sanitation standards. Boards carrying messages on cleanliness, sanitation, and waste management will be installed at various locations across Chanthappura.

The installation of the boards was inaugurated by Grama Panchayat President Shri. T. V. Chandran. Secretary Antony N, Assistant Secretary Sajitha P. K, Haritha Kerala Mission/ Suchitwa Mission Resource Person Sujana M, VEO Soumya C. H, members of the governing committee, autorickshaw workers, traders, and others were present on the occasion.
